Leading Industry eDiscovery Consultant weights in on cP-DocRev

I recently attended my first LegalTech conference. As I walked through the two floors of vendor booths I was reminded, 1) that there are some really great eDiscovery tools out there; and 2) it is still difficult for the small firm or solo practitioner to find eDiscovery tools for their clients that are affordable, effective and appropriate for smaller amounts of data. Sure there are the old standbys, Summation and Concordance; but the licenses for those systems are expensive, especially if, like many small firms, you don’t have a lot of eDiscovery matters to justify the regular cost.

In light of this, I was particularly interested to try Code Mantra’s cp-DocRev (“DocRev”) platform. DocRev is advertised as an online litigation support system, which allows its users to securely review, code and produce their data at a reasonably low cost.

What did I like about the DocRev platform?

· The platform is user friendly and intuitive. You can see your document and your tags on one screen and can move easily between documents.
· Redactions are easy to perform.
· You can use DocRev with any browser.
· It works well as a Summation or Concordance alternative. If your adversary gives you a disk with a bunch of .TIFF images and you’ve never had to review data in this form, DocRev might be a good solution for your document review.
· You can use it to search and review transcripts.
· They are working hard to improve the platform based on the needs of their customers.
· Compared to other products on the market, it’s cost effective and straightforward. The per gig cost includes .TIFF, OCR and analytics, and there are no user, set-up or project management fees.

No one tool is right for every case, and the same is true here. Each case requires an individualized assessment of the specific data and claims involved. However, I am heartened that developers are finally starting to see the void in the small case/small firm eDiscovery market and are creating platforms, such as DocRev, to fill that void.
